Conducting officer Badius Zaman Rahman told the court that presiding coroner Surita Budin was on medical leave, and urged the court to fix another date.
Sessions court judge Rushan Lutfi Mohamed presided over the case management today.
Badius also informed the court that the conducting officers would be calling 10 witnesses to testify and would need seven days to present their case.
“I believe the watching brief lawyers will be calling several witnesses as well,” he said.
Muhammad Amin Anuar, who held a watching brief for Rania Asyifaa’s family, informed the court that they would be requesting the conducting officers to provide the list of witnesses they intended to call.
He said this was to ensure that there would be no clash between witnesses for the conducting officers and the family members.
“We understand that there are 28 witnesses but only 10 will be called to testify.
“We will provide our list of witnesses. We are here to assist the court in seeking justice for Baby Syifaa, and not delay the proceedings,” he said.
Co-counsel Musfira Fahmi said they also hoped the conducting officers would provide forensic and other relevant documents to the family.
Fifteen-month-old Rania Asyifaa was believed to have died after getting her head entangled in a cloth cradle at a childcare centre at Taman Nusari Aman, Bandar Sri Sendayan, on Feb 22.
Her parents started a social media movement after her death. #Justiceforbabysyifaa now has 60,000 followers.
The hashtag has been used by her father, Yuseri Yusoff, as a platform to provide explanations and also demand answers from the authorities about the death of his child.
Seremban police chief Nanda Maarof was reported saying the baby girl was found unconscious in a room at the nursery, with her head hanging from the cradle and the rest of her body inside it.
Nanda said early investigations found that the baby was fed milk at 12.30pm and was left to sleep in the cradle inside a room with two other children.
