Ministry looks into higher allowance for teachers as hostel wardens

The present allowance of RM240 is said to be inadequate as teachers have a 24-hour role in taking care of the students.

PUTRAJAYA:
The education ministry is studying the long-standing issue of teachers serving as hostel wardens, including raising their allowance.

Education minister Radzi Jidin said they were viewing the matter in a comprehensive manner.

“We want to resolve this issue once and for all, but there are certain limitations that we are trying to fix,” he said at a ministry Open Day and Aidilfitri event here today.

The ministry has faced many calls to review the monthly RM240 allowance for hostel wardens. Critics say the allowance is low as it does not make up for the heavy responsibility of being on duty 24 hours.

Radzi said it would take some time to solve the matter.
