Melaka airport to reopen with twice-weekly Penang flights

The next route to be reopened will be the Melaka-Pekanbaru service. Both routes will be operated by Batik Air, formerly Malindo Air.

Batik Air, formerly Malindo Air, will operate twice-weekly flights to Penang from Melaka in June.
MELAKA:
The Melaka International Airport in Batu Berendam here is expected to resume operations in June with twice-weekly flights to Penang by Malindo Air, now known as Batik Air.

State executive councillor for tourism, Jailani Khamis, said the frequency of the flights would be increased according to demand.

The next route would be to Pekanbaru in Riau, Sumatra, for which approval of the Indonesian government is being sought.

Jailani said the reopening of the airport was important for reviving tourism. The state has a target of 5.6 million tourist arrivals this year.

About 30,000 tourists are expected to use the Melaka-Penang flights over the next six months.
