Homeless man gets 6 months’ jail for assaulting court interpreter

The accused was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

PETALING JAYA:
A homeless man has been sentenced to a six-month jail term for assaulting a woman in Klang on May 18, leaving her with a fractured nose and numerous bruises.

“The accused was sentenced to six months’ jail by magistrate P Sarulatha today,” North Klang police chief S Vijaya Rao said in a statement.

The man was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code with voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which carries a punishment of up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.

The accused was arrested on May 22 at Bandar Baru Klang at about 5pm and has a record for 16 criminal cases, including for drug use.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the man, in his 40s, tested positive for drugs and was investigated for attempted robbery.

The man assaulted court interpreter Fuza Nordin, fracturing her nose and bruising her face, cheek and forehead. She also suffered from bleeding in her right eye.
