PUTRAJAYA:
Veterans of the Malaysian armed forces can expect good news soon about pardons for military offences, and improvements in pensions for widows.

Defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the wishes of veterans regarding their welfare would continue to receive attention.

“But any announcement needs proper time as it involves other ministries and departments and the matter depends on allocations which are still being discussed.

“Whatever can be settled will be announced soon,” he said after witnessing the 100th anniversary parade of veterans at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here today.

He said a proposal to build a hospital for veterans, announced in 2018, would be reviewed to seek a more realistic approach.
