After chairing the fourth meeting of the parliamentary select committee (PSC) yesterday, Wan Junaidi said the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) could move forward in drafting the bill.

“Almost all policy-level decisions to draft an anti-hopping bill have been finalised.

“The meeting had successfully resolved policy issues and there now appears to be consensus on how the law will be implemented,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that the committee also took into account the recommendations of NGOs on the matter.

Wan Junaidi said the PSC would meet again on May 19 to review the draft bill prepared by the AGC.

He expressed hope that the bill would be tabled at a special parliamentary sitting as previously scheduled, at the discretion of the prime minister and his Cabinet.

Last month, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the anti-hopping bill was to be tabled in Parliament in July.
