KUALA LUMPUR:
A witness told the High Court in Najib Razak’s trial that he was not appointed by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low to be the company secretary for 1MDB.

Despite being repeatedly pressed by lawyer Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohamed, Lim Poh Seng said his appointment as the company secretary for Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), which was the precursor to 1MDB, was done collectively by the board of directors in 2009.

Lim served as company secretary from the inception of TIA on Feb 27, 2009 to March 31, 2011. Goh Gaik Kim took over the position after Lim resigned.

The witness had earlier told the court that Jho Low had approached his company in 2008 to take the minutes of a meeting of the TIA steering committee.

To another question by Wan Aizuddin on how he knew Jho Low, Lim said he knew Jho Low before being appointed as TIA company secretary because Jho Low had engaged his company (B&M Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd) in the past “to render work for some companies”.

“He engaged your services before TIA?” Wan Aizuddin asked.

Lim answered in the affirmative.

The hearing continues on May 17 before High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah.

Najib is on trial for 25 counts of abuse of power and money laundering over 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion allegedly deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
