Submit flight data, airlines told over changes to schedules

Mavcom says the data will be used to gain an objective, accurate and comprehensive view of the situation.

Mavcom has also asked airlines to submit actual flight schedules versus the total number of rescheduled flights.
PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has instructed airlines to submit their flight data in its probe on indiscriminate changes to flight schedules.

In a statement, it said it received complaints from consumers regarding flight changes without adequate notice.

“In line with Mavcom’s mandate to uphold the rights of consumers, airlines have been told to submit all relevant data regarding flight schedule disruptions over the festive period from April 29 to May 9 to gain an objective, accurate and comprehensive view of the situation,” it said.

It added that airlines had also been asked to submit actual flight schedules versus the total number of rescheduled flights.

This comes after domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi urged Mavcom and transport minister Wee Ka Siong to be more proactive on issues pertaining to AirAsia’s flight delays and rescheduling.

Previously, he noted that the flight delays to various domestic destinations had occurred since the end of last month.

Mavcom executive chairman Saripuddin Kasim said it was refining the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC) to enhance the protection of consumers, especially during unprecedented situations.

“This will be a priority for the commission, and we will continue to ensure that industry players remain compliant with MACPC and that consumer rights are continuously upheld,” he said.

He urged consumers who had faced delays or flight issues and did not receive the proper care to lodge a formal complaint with the airline in question.

“Consumers are also encouraged to forward their complaints to Mavcom via the FlySmart website or the FlySmart mobile app together with the proper documentation to facilitate an effective investigation,” he said.
