State housing, local government and tourism committee chairman Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi said a discussion would be held with the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to tighten safety regulations there.
“We have taken note that the incident occurred when the boy lost control while riding the electric toy car. The boy was accompanied by his father.
“We will discuss with MBI the safety risks and actions to be taken, including installing fences.
“We have informed the operator to be cautious and inform the customers about the safety of the children playing in the area,” she said when met at the Perak state government’s Clients’ Day at Stadium Indera Mulia here today.
Nolee said a preliminary investigation found the incident occurred in the lower lane, which was not allowed for vehicles for safety reasons.
The boy, who sustained minor injuries, was given treatment in an ambulance at the scene.
MBI has ordered a temporary closure of the children’s electric toy car ride operation, effective yesterday, for further investigations to be carried out.
A 29-second video went viral on social media, showing the toy car falling into the river, and the child being rescued by the father and members of the public before he could be swept away.
