
Shahrul Nizam Mohammad Shuhaimi, 32, made the admission when the charges were read out by a court interpreter in front of magistrate A Hafizh Abu Bakar, Harian Metro reported.
According to the first charge, the man hit the front left side of a police car near a Toyota showroom in Seri Manjung between 8.40am and 9.40am on May 4, causing RM1,200 in damages.
The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of not less than a year and not more than five years or a fine or both upon conviction.
For the second charge, Shahrul was charged with not cooperating with police, as well as obstructing officers from carrying out their duties by stopping his vehicle suddenly and acting aggressively with policemen to avoid arrest in front of the Horizon Garden restaurant on the same date and time.
The charge under Section 186 of the same code carries a two-year jail term, or a RM10,000 maximum fine or both if found guilty.
The court sentenced him to 18 months in jail on each charge to be carried out concurrently from the date of arrest.
Earlier, Shahrul, a father of one, also pleaded guilty to consuming methamphetamine after failing a drug test at the Manjung district police headquarters at 1.30pm on May 4.
He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum of two years’ imprisonment or a RM50,000 fine and police supervision for not more than three years if found guilty.
The court fixed July 4 for re-mention of the case pending the chemist’s report.
The press had previously reported that a man took another man’s wife in her car out of fear of her husband, who was believed to be a debt collector. He was then chased by a police patrol car, which he hit before he was eventually arrested.
