KUALA LUMPUR:
Police are investigating Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos for the possession of “leaked documents” classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok had lodged a police report on May 7 after Jamal presented the “secret” documents to her lawyer in regard to an ongoing civil case, in which she had sued Jamal for defamation in 2017.

The “leaked documents” included the minutes of meetings on Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) 2016, a report on a cash book (buku tunai), a district office’s bank adjustment statement, and a feedback meeting on system coordination of SMUE.

At a media conference held outside the Sentul police station today, Kok claimed police had classified the report as “No Further Action” (NFA) on the same day she filed it.

However, Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai clarified that the NFA was “temporary” and a normal procedure.

“Police have to classify the case within 24 hours in the system. We will reclassify the case after recording statements from witnesses,” he said.

Beh added that Kok’s report had been reclassified under Section 8 of OSA 1972.

Kok, who is the former primary industries minister, filed the defamation suit against Jamal in 2017 after the Umno man allegedly defamed her by accusing her of abusing funds from Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor.
