PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry reported two Covid-19 deaths yesterday, the lowest number of fatalities recorded in a day for more than a year.

The last time Covid-19 deaths were this low was on April 16, 2021, when the ministry reported two deaths from the virus.

According to the CovidNow website, none of the two deceased reported yesterday were brought-in-dead cases. The death toll stands at 35,569.

This marked a continued downtrend in deaths after the three reported the day before. The number of daily infections and hospital admissions has also been steadily decreasing over the past month.

However, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry expects a spike in cases after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration although the majority are expected to be in categories one and two.

There were 1,278 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, of which three were imported. A total of 2,599 recoveries were also reported.

The total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Malaysia stands at 4,454,113, of which 4,391,090 have recovered.

Some 27,454 active cases remain, with 96.2% of these patients in home quarantine while 30 patients are in intensive care units with 36 requiring respiratory assistance.
