Gombak district police chief Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the 43-year-old was arrested at 2pm yesterday at the Gombak district police headquarters (IPD), Bernama reported.
He said the driver took a urine test for drugs at the Narcotics Division and it turned out to be negative.
“He was also sent to Hospital Selayang for a blood sample to be taken to test his alcohol level,” Zainal said in a statement.
He added that the driver will continue to be held until he is taken to the Selayang magistrates’ court tomorrow for a remand order to be obtained.
Zainal added that the case was being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
In response to the now-viral video, the Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) said the incident occurred along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (eastbound) on Saturday.
“The driver’s actions could have resulted in an accident, not just involving himself, but also other road users.”
