Traffic clears, but northbound choke points still congested

PETALING JAYA:
Traffic congestion on most highways in Peninsular Malaysia had cleared up this evening, but major choke points on the North-South Expressway (E1) remains congested at 7pm tonight as Malaysians continue their exodus to their hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) reported that the main areas of congestion on northbound lanes of the E1 are from Behrang to Slim River, Slim River to Bidor, Tapah to Gopeng; Terowong Menora to Sg Perak and from Bukit Merah to Jawi.

Traffic was slow along the East Coast Expressway (E8) before the Kuala Terengganu toll plaza exit.

In the central area, congestion was reported along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (E8) from Gombak to Genting Sempah, Genting Sempah to Bukit Tinggi, and Bukit Tinggi to Bentong as of 7pm.

Congestion on southbound lanes of the E1 were reported at Ayer Keroh-Jasin, and on the E2 from Port Dickson to Senawang.

Earlier today, highway operator PLUS reported congestion that stretched for 150km from Rawang northwards to Gopeng on the northbound E1.
