Unvaccinated teachers allowed in classrooms again

Education minister Radzi Jidin says the wearing of face masks remains mandatory in classrooms and other enclosed spaces.

The wearing of school uniforms will be compulsory from the second semester of the schooling session, which starts on June 12, says Radzi Jidin.
PUTRAJAYA:
Teachers who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 will be allowed to teach students in physical classes when the schooling session resumes.

Education minister Radzi Jidin said what was more important was that the wearing of face masks remained mandatory in classrooms and other enclosed spaces.

Last September, Radzi said teachers who have not been vaccinated against the virus will not be allowed to return to schools for physical classes.

The education ministry also said it will take action from Nov 1 against teachers who refuse to be vaccinated against Covid-19 without valid reasons.

According to Radzi, the wearing of school uniforms was compulsory from the second semester of the schooling session, which starts on June 12.

Physical distancing will no longer be required in classrooms and students’ attendance was now compulsory except for “certain cases”, he said.

“With the transition to the endemic phase, attendance is compulsory. If there are certain reasons students cannot make it, the school must be informed.”

Radzi added that schools will also be allowed to resume holding sports and co-curriculum activities.

Parents will also be allowed to visit students staying in boarding schools at their hostels. Previously, they could only visit their children by meeting them in front of the school gate.
