143 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 13% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 143 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 67 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 76 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 26, followed by Perak (21) and Johor (18).

Meanwhile, 178 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 13% of their total capacity of 752 beds.

A total of 63 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 8% of their maximum capacity.

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical beds were at 58% while 56% of ICUs were in use.

Three new clusters were reported yesterday.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 0.73.
