Singer of ‘Perajurit Tanah Air’ dies at 85

Jamaludin Alias was also a renowned RTM sports commentator.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Jamaludin Alias, the singer of the patriotic song, Perajurit Tanah Air, died today of old age. He was 85.

His son, Fazli, when confirming the matter, said Jamaludin died at 5am.

The funeral prayers for Jamaludin, who was also a former renowned Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) sports commentator, were held at the Al-Hidayah Mosque, Kelana Jaya, after the Friday prayers.

He was laid to rest at the Section 9 Muslim cemetery in Kota Damansara.

He leaves his wife, Umi Kalsom Othman, and three children.

During his service with RTM, Jamaludin was also assigned as the sports commentator for numerous SEA Games, starting from the Jakarta edition in 1979 to the Manila edition in 1991.

He also covered the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta and in New Delhi in 1982, as well as the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
