“Nagaenthran. Save him. Only then will there be some relief. Sorry, he has done wrong. Everyone please help,” Panchalai Supermaniam said in Malay in a short video.

The video, by human rights non-profit organisation Reprieve, was posted on Facebook by Singapore lawyer M Ravi, who has been providing technical assistance to Nagaenthran’s lawyer, Violet Netto.

Nagaenthran’s family, from Perak, was told yesterday he will be hanged next Wednesday after losing his last-ditch appeal.

Nagaenthran, 34, who is mentally disabled, was arrested in 2009 for trafficking 42.72gm of heroin into the city-state, which has some of the world’s toughest drug laws, and was handed a death sentence the following year.

His sister, Sarmila Dharmalingam, told AFP that family members, including his mother and three siblings, will travel to Singapore to see him.

Yesterday, Ravi urged Putrajaya to bring the case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to stop the execution.

He said while Singapore was not obliged to follow the orders of the ICJ, there was a chance it would do so in this case.
