243 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 13% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 243 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 124 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 119 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 59, followed by Johor (37) and Perak (31).

A total of 225 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 13% of their total capacity of 760 beds.

A total of 63 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 8% of their maximum capacity.

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients in public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 61% capacity while 52% of ICUs were in use.

Four new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.84.
