According to a source, the incident which occurred at about 10am, caused major flooding at the basement car park in the main building of QEH2.
The source also said the incident had forced the hospital to cancel all elective surgeries for today.
“Repair work is being done and it is expected to be completed at about 6pm,” the source told FMT.
In a statement later, Rose Nani confirmed the incident and it occurred at 10.58am when the pipe connected to the building’s main water tank burst.
She said immediate action was taken by the hospital and the maintenance company to build a connecting pipe to bypass the burst one, adding that “the situation is under control now”.
“The water at the basement level has been cleared while the process to fix the leak is expected to be completed by 8pm today,” she said.
As a precautionary measure, she said all non-emergency surgeries have been postponed, adding only critical operations are allowed to resume.
“All other health services at QEH2 are operating as usual. The hospital and Sabah health department are doing all they can to ensure medical services are not disrupted,” she said.
A video that has been shared on social media shows several people, believed to be hospital workers, clearing the water pouring down from the ceiling at the basement car park.
The QEH1 had been forced to transfer patients to QEH2 following a power outage yesterday.
