308 new hospital admissions, ICU capacity down to 14%

PETALING JAYA:
There were 308 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 137 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 171 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Kedah had the highest number of new admissions with 68, followed by Selangor (58) and Perak (32).

A total of 265 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 14% of their total capacity of 760 beds.

A total of 68 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 9% of their maximum capacity.

Only Putrajaya (51%) has exceeded 50% ICU bed capacity. Negeri Sembilan is at 50% capacity.

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients in public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 60% capacity while 52% of ICUs were in use.

No new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.88.
