241 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 17% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 241 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 135 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 106 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 44, followed by Perak (34) and Kedah (22).

A total of 282 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 17% of their total capacity of 760 beds.

No public hospital exceeded ICU bed capacity of 50% yesterday.

A total of 76 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 10% of their maximum capacity.

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, critical beds were at 59% capacity while 54% of ICUs were in use.

Six new clusters were also reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.86.
