370 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 18% capacity

There were 370 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 224 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 146 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 113, followed by Kelantan (95) and Sabah (78).

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 18% of their total capacity of 859 beds.

He added that the utilisation of ICU beds did not exceed 50% capacity in any state or federal territory.

A total of 87 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 10% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (51%).

In terms of the overall capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, critical beds were at 61% capacity while 51% of ICUs were in use.

Eight new clusters were also reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, or R-nought) stood at 0.82.
