Bukit Aman has confirmed that Fahmi is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for seditious tendency and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA) for improper use of network facilities or network service.

“Fahmi’s post has attracted 12,000 responses, 3,400 comments and 966 shares since it was uploaded, inciting the anger of netizens who found the caricature outrageous,” said Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) director Abd Jalil Hassan.

Jalil advised the public to be cognisant of the issues that touched upon the royal institution and sensitivities related to race and religion.

Today, Fahmi was called up by the police over his satirical drawing of an ape in headgear and yellow attire similar to that worn by royalty, which he posted on social media last night.

In a follow-up tweet, Fahmi said if people accepted and did not restrict the satirical works about others, they must also accept and not restrict satirical works about themselves.

“It hasn’t even been 15 hours and they’ve opened investigation papers against me under the Sedition Act,” he added.
