426 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 19% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 426 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 244 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 182 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 97, followed by Perak (57) and Johor (40).

A total of 445 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 19% of their total capacity of 861 beds.

ICU beds in two regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Putrajaya (67%) and Selangor (51%).

A total of 97 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 11% their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (53%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 56% capacity while 52% of ICUs were in use.

Three new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.85.
