PETALING JAYA:
There were 394 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 232 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 162 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 68, followed by Johor (46) and Perak (44).

A total of 391 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 18% of their total capacity of 861 beds.

ICU bed capacity in two regions has exceeded 50% – in Putrajaya (100%) and Selangor (51%).

Ninety-seven patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 11% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (63%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 60% capacity while 53% of ICUs were in use.

Three new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.84.
