Contract doctors: PSC to send 3,281 rejected applications for final screening

Public Service Commission says some applicants didn't provide full registration information with the Malaysian Medical Council or on fields of specialisation.

Contract doctors had complained that they did not receive guidelines to fill out their applications for permanent positions.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A total of 3,281 contract doctors who failed the screening for permanent positions will have their applications sent to the health ministry for a final vetting, the Public Service Commission (PSC) said today.

It said some of the applications for permanent appointment to the position of UD41/UD43 medical officers did not have information on their full registration with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).

It added that some applicants also did not furnish information on fields of specialisation, which was a mandatory requirement for a permanent position with the ministry.

“A total of 1,587 applications did not pass the screening for specific conditions set by the health ministry, including the requirement that candidates must be appointed on contract based on the health secretary-general’s circular and must have completed graduate training in or outside the country,” PSC said in a statement today.

In addition, candidates must be contracted from 2016 to 2018 only, have never resigned from the position, have never been terminated, have never been subjected to disciplinary action throughout the contract term, and have never refused an offer of permanent appointment, it said.

According to PSC, other factors include failure in completing full registration information or filling out temporary registration with MMC as well as providing inaccurate fields for specialisation.

It said PSC received a total of 10,593 applications through its job registration system on March 16.

On complaints that applicants did not receive guidelines to fill out their applications, PSC said it had agreed to submit a list of 3,281 candidates who did not pass the screening to the health ministry for a final screening process.

“If the health ministry finds that the candidates meet all the conditions set (as advertised), their status will be updated and they will be called for an interview.

“Candidates can check the latest status of the application from April 22,” it said, adding that PSC had also agreed to remove the full registration and temporary registration options from the application process.

It said candidates could channel their enquiries to the Medical Unit, PSC recruitment division at 03-8091 9000/9415 (office hours) or email [email protected].

On Saturday, a posting by a social media user expressing dissatisfaction for failing PSC’s screening process in the application for a permanent medical officer position went viral, claiming that no specific guidelines were provided to candidates to fill out the application.
