427 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 20% capacity

A total of 403 patients were discharged yesterday.

Selangor had the highest number of new hospital admissions yesterday, followed by Perak and Johor.
PETALING JAYA:
There were 427 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 240 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 187 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 87, followed by Perak (60) and Johor (45).

A total of 403 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 20% of their total capacity of 861 beds.

ICU bed capacity in two regions has exceeded 50%, in Putrajaya (100%) and Selangor (52%).

A total of 102 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 12% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (64%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 61% capacity while 54% of ICUs were in use.

Two new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.84.
