KUALA LUMPUR:
A special sitting of the Dewan Negara tomorrow to debate a proposed constitutional amendment has been cancelled.

Dewan Negara secretary Sujairi Abdullah said in a statement that the cancellation comes after the Dewan Rakyat decided at its special sitting today that the bill would be further studied and refined by a parliamentary select committee.

“The Senate president has received a notice from Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in his capacity as the Leader of the House that the special sitting of the Dewan Negara for April 12 has been cancelled,” the statement said.

Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told the Dewan Rakyat earlier today that the government and Pakatan Harapan had agreed on three matters regarding amendments to Article 10 of the Federal Constitution, including refining the definition on barring members of the Dewan Rakyat from switching parties.

The agreement was reached at a meeting chaired by Ismail this morning.
