PETALING JAYA:
Writer Uthaya Sankar SB has been arrested by the police over his Facebook posting on Prophet Muhammad.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Abd Jalil Hassan said police were investigating Uthaya for uploading a posting that contained an element of insult to the prophet on April 7.

The classified criminal investigation unit is investigating Uthaya under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion.

He is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.

“He was arrested at a house in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, around 11.15am today,” Jalil said in a statement.

Police had also seized a mobile phone and a SIM card from Uthaya, 50.

Earlier, Uthaya had said that the police had taken him to Bukit Aman to record his statement over his controversial post on polygamy.

The post was based on an article about local actor Iman Zulkarnain, who admitted that he couldn’t commit to polygamy after a divorce with his second wife.
