PETALING JAYA:
Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has told Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob that the coalition must be consulted before any date is fixed for the dissolution of Parliament.

In a Facebook post, Muhyiddin said he conveyed this to him at a meeting between the PN leaders and Ismail at the prime minister’s residence yesterday, after breaking fast with him.

“Besides discussing matters important to the rakyat, I reminded the prime minister that PN, as the main party in the federal government, must be consulted before any decision is made on the dissolution of Parliament,” he said.

The Bersatu president said Ismail emphasised the importance of cooperation between PN and the federal government, adding that he assured the leaders that the coalition would be consulted when drawing up important national policies.

Those present at the meeting were PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, STAR head Jeffrey Kitingan, SAPP chief Yong Teck Lee and Gerakan president Dominic Lau.

Speculation has been rife that the next general election (GE15) is likely to be called by the end of the year, with some predicting it will be held in four to six months.

A group of Umno leaders is pushing for early elections while PN and Pakatan Harapan do not appear to be eager to have it anytime soon.
