Another custodial death, this time in Pahang

PETALING JAYA:
Police have reported another death in custody, this time in Pahang. It is the 14th case recorded in the country this year.

In a statement, Bukit Aman’s integrity and standards compliance department director Azri Ahmad said the 42-year-old detainee was brought to the Indera Mahkota centralised lock-up on March 21 after being sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He was due to attend another hearing tomorrow after being charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Azri said the man was given medicine for tuberculosis yesterday evening and was found unconscious about an hour later.

He was then brought to Hospital Kuantan, which confirmed his death.

He added that his department’s custodial death investigation unit would investigate the case.
