486 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 22% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 486 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 288 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 198 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 118, followed by Perak (62) and Johor (56).

Meanwhile, 494 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 22% of their total capacity of 869 beds.

ICU beds in Selangor are at 58% capacity.

A total of 108 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 12% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (51%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical beds were at 51% while 53% of ICUs were in use.

Two clusters were reported yesterday.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 0.83.
