Of this, 296 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 211 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 113, followed by Perak (66) and Kuala Lumpur (56).

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 24% of their total capacity of 869 beds.

Only Selangor (53%) had exceeded 50% ICU bed capacity.

A total of 109 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 13% of its maximum capacity.

Meanwhile, the use of normal Covid-19 beds is at 50% capacity in Selangor. No other state or federal territory is at the same level or higher.

In terms of the total capacity for Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 52% capacity while 55% of ICUs were in use.

Two new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, or R-nought) stood at 0.84.
