The teenager was taken into custody on Wednesday at his home in Taman Seri Keramat Tengah, Kuala Lumpur, by personnel from the Miri central police criminal investigation department and the federal police’s D11 (sexual, women and child investigation) division, Borneo Post reported.
He was then flown to Miri, Sarawak, on the same day, where he is expected to face charges.
Last month, the victim’s mother lodged a police report in Miri alleging the boy had posted an indecent video of the girl on his Instagram account.
According to the Sarawak-based daily, Miri police chief Hakemal Hawari confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Under the Act, any person using a child in the making or production of, any child pornography commits an offence and is liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 20 years and not less than five strokes of the rotan.
However, in Malaysia, juveniles normally face other forms of punishment for offences committed instead of imprisonment and fines.
