541 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 23% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 541 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 324 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 217 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 116, followed by Perak (76) and Johor (63).

A total of 556 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 23% of their total capacity of 869 beds.

Only Selangor (53%) has exceeded 50% ICU bed capacity.

A total of 108 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 12% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (58%) and Selangor (52%).

In terms of the total capacity for Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 63% capacity while 55% of ICUs were in use.

Four new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.83.
