558 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 27% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 558 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 221 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 337 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 106, followed by Johor (63) and Kuala Lumpur (60).

A total of 647 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 27% of their total capacity of 876 beds.

Only Selangor (51%) has exceeded 50% ICU bed capacity.

A total of 131 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 15% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (55%) and Selangor (55%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 61% capacity while 56% of ICUs were in use.

One new cluster was also reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.86.
