New hospital admissions drop to 543, ICUs at 27% capacity

A total of 558 patients were also discharged yesterday.

Only ICU beds in Kuala Lumpur and Perlis have exceeded 50% capacity.
PETALING JAYA:
New hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases dropped to 543 yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 317 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 226 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 110, followed by Perak (61) and Johor (60).

A total of 558 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 27% of their total capacity of 876 beds.

ICU beds in two regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kuala Lumpur (60%) and Perlis (55%).

A total of 140 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 16% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (69%) and Selangor (56%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at government hospitals, non-critical beds were at 59% capacity while 54% of ICUs were in use.

No new clusters were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.86.
