PETALING JAYA:
The police have begun investigations into an assault incident at a convenience store in Cheras.

The incident went viral after a video was circulated on social media showing a man dressed in the red-colour Prasarana Malaysia Bhd company uniform assaulting a member of the public.

Cheras district police chief Idzam Jaafar said police have recorded statements from three witnesses.

“Preliminary investigations found that no assault occurred, however, a detailed investigation is ongoing,” he said in a statement today.

Idzam said a Prasarana auxiliary police officer, who was also at the convenience store at the time, had lodged a report denying any assault had taken place.

The victim was allegedly caught red-handed taking food without paying at the convenience store.

Idzam implored members of the public with relevant information to come forward.

Yesterday, Prasarana said it had launched its own investigation into the incident, saying it took the allegations seriously given that the suspected assailant was shown to be its employee.
