“There has been no discussion with us (the opposition), so we do not know whether they will raise it again.
“It’s up to the home minister,” he was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia.
Home minister Hamzah Zainudin was previously reported as saying that the government would retable the motion, after it had been shot down in the Dewan Rakyat last week.
The Malay daily also reported the opposition might not reject the retabling, provided some amendments were made.
Padang Serai MP M Karupaiya had said the amendment could include reducing the detention period from 28 days to 14 days.
Last week, the motion to extend sub-section 4(5) under Sosma for another five years was voted down, with 85 votes in favour and 86 against. The remaining 49 MPs were absent.
Sub-section 4(5) of Sosma enables police to detain a person suspected of being involved in terrorist activities for a period not exceeding 28 days for investigations.
Sub-section 4(11) states that sub-section 4(5) shall be reviewed every five years and shall cease to be effective when both the Dewan Rakyat and the Dewan Negara vote against extending it.
