Jais suspends unvaccinated Kafa teachers

Its director warns that the services of those who do not complete their two-dose vaccination programme in the next two months could be terminated.

Jais says it will forward the names of those who refuse to be vaccinated to the Sultan of Selangor.
PETALING JAYA:
Fardu Ain Basic Class (Kafa) teachers in Selangor who have refused to get vaccinated for Covid-19 have been suspended for two months, said the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) yesterday.

Speaking to Sinar Harian, Jais director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad warned that the services of Kafa teachers who do not complete their two-dose vaccination programme in the next two months could be terminated immediately.

“This is an old issue based on the order by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, that Kafa teachers must be vaccinated. Jais has already issued a circular on the matter and we have given them ample opportunity,” he said.

“But since they don’t want to comply, they have been suspended for two months.”

Kafa is an education programme approved by the department of Islamic development Malaysia (Jakim).

In September, Sultan Sharafuddin voiced his displeasure that 96 of the 203 Kafa teachers, mosque committee members and marriage officials who attended a special Covid-19 vaccination programme for Jais frontliners had refused to get vaccinated.

Warning the “stubborn” Kafa teachers that they may not be allowed to carry out their duties if they remain unvaccinated, Sultan Sharafuddin said the same applied to mosque committee members and marriage officials.

Jais previously had said it would present the names of those refusing to be vaccinated to the sultan.
