1,092 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 33% capacity

A total of 1,282 patients were discharged yesterday.

The ICU bed capacity in four regions is above 50%.

There were 1,092 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 628 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 464 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 209, followed by Perak (109) and Johor (100).

Meanwhile, a total of 1,282 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 33% of their total capacity of 882 beds.

ICU beds in four regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Putrajaya (100%), Kuala Lumpur (67%), Johor (55%) and Selangor (51%).

A total of 188 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 21% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds have exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (80%), Selangor (73%), Kuala Lumpur (61%), Terengganu (57%), Sarawak (55%), Melaka (54%), Negeri Sembilan (54%), and Perak (53%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at government hospitals, non-critical beds were at 51% while 57% of ICUs were in use.

Only one new cluster was reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.92.
