Kit Siang compounded over ‘hugging’, Najib yet to settle fine during Johor polls

Khairy Jamaluddin says the health ministry also hopes Najib Razak will accept four more compound notices rejected by his officers.

PETALING JAYA:
Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin says a compound notice has been issued to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, and that Najib Razak has also yet to settle a fine slapped against him during the Johor state elections.

Khairy also hopes that the former prime minister will accept four more compound notices that his officers refused to acknowledge.

This comes after Najib questioned why Lim was not fined by the ministry for hugging party members after he announced his retirement from politics at the DAP congress last weekend.

“The ministry hopes Najib pays the compound issued during the Johor polls that has not yet been settled.

“We also hope Najib will accept four compound notices sent by post which his officers refused to acknowledge,” Khairy said in a tweet today.

It was reported that Lim and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who attended the DAP congress, tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday.

Despite praying for Lim’s speedy recovery, Najib slammed the DAP veteran for violating the SOPs.

Najib said MPs from DAP who had hugged Lim at the party congress should place themselves in quarantine and not attend the current Dewan Rakyat meeting “to make sure the House is not infected as a result of their error”.

He also asked whether the DAP members would be issued compound notices “the way a popular singer had been fined for hugging”.

“I don’t wish to be malicious, but this gang (DAP members) takes pleasure in accusing me of violating the SOPs, so much so that KJ (Khairy) fined me many times,” he said.
