Driver nabbed for using motorcycle lane to ‘beat jam’

Police tracked him down after a 30-second video of the incident was recorded by a motorist and uploaded on the DashCam Owners Malaysia Facebook page.

Police have arrested the driver of the car who was caught using the motorcycle lane on the Federal Highway near Jalan Pantai Baharu, Kuala Lumpur, presumably to beat the traffic jam.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said they tracked him down after a 30-second video clip of the incident went viral.

He said the video was uploaded by Facebook account owner Mazli Alias on the DashCam Owners Malaysia Facebook page yesterday.

“Investigations revealed that the incident is believed to have occurred in the motorcycle lane along the Federal Highway near Jalan Pantai Baharu.

“We tracked down the 30-year-old driver of the Honda Civic and arrested him when he appeared at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station for questioning,” he said in a statement.

Sarifudin said the case is being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
