JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Hasni Mohammad has retained the Benut seat in a four-cornered battle, unofficial results indicate.
Hasni, who is caretaker menteri besar, was up against Pakatan Harapan’s Hanif Ghazali Hosman, Perikatan Nasional’s Isa Ab Hamid and Pejuang’s Iskandar Noor Ibrahim.
In the 2018 general election, Hasni won the seat with a 4,447 vote majority against PKR’s Zulkifly Tasrep and PAS’ Mohd Firdaus Jaffar.
His victory today means that he is likely to be BN’s candidate for the menteri besar’s post should the coalition win a majority of seats in the state assembly at today’s election.
Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan declared that unofficial results at 8.40pm showed that BN had secured 42 of the 56 state assembly seats.
