PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional’s top leadership will decide on its “poster boy” for the 15th general election (GE15), says the coalition’s chairman, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
At an event in Johor Bahru today, Zahid was asked if Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also an Umno vice-president, would be BN’s face for GE15.
The Umno president said BN had its own consultative system to obtain consensus from all component party leaders on these kind of matters.
“When the time comes, we will announce it. Today is Friday and the eve of the Johor state elections. It’s not proper for me to announce our poster boy for GE15. Let’s wait until the party has made a decision,” Zahid said.
There have been calls from within Umno for Ismail to request the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament to make way for GE15 by this year.
Ismail is the first prime minister from Umno who is not the party president.
