Azhar resigns as chairman and director of MRT Corp

Azhar Abdul Hamid, who also served as Mass Rapid Transit Corporation chief executive officer from 2011 to 2014, was appointed chairman in May last year.

Prior to becoming MRT Corp chairman, Azhar Abdul Hamid was chairman of FGV Holdings Bhd from September 2017 to April 2021.
PETALING JAYA:
Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) today announced that Azhar Abdul Hamid has resigned as chairman and director with effect from March 7, 2022.

In a statement, MRT Corp expressed their gratitude for the commitment and invaluable contribution made by Azhar during his tenure and wished him the very best in his future endeavours.

Azhar was appointed  MRT Corp’s chairman in May 2021.

When Azhar was appointed in 2021, MRT Corp chief executive officer Zarif Hashim said Azhar brought with him vast industry experience that will help steer MRT Corp into the future.

Prior to his appointment he served as chairman of FGV Holdings Bhd from September 2017 to April 2021.

Azhar had previously served as MRT Corp’s CEO from 2011 to 2014.

After leaving MRT Corp in 2014, Azhar held various positions including chairman of MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd, group managing director of Malakoff Corporation, as well as president/group managing director and later chairman of Tradewinds Corporation Berhad.
