They include PKR’s Gambir and Bukit Batu candidates, Naim Jusri and Arthur Chiong; DAP’s candidates for Pekan Nanas and Jementah, Yeo Tung Siong and Ng Kor Sim; and Barisan Nasional’s Penggaram candidate, Ter Hwa Kwong.
Chiong and Ter spoke to FMT about their having to improvise in their campaigning.
They are using social media and asking family members to represent them in walkabouts.
Chiong, who tested positive just a day after nominations, said he had spent much of the campaigning period at home.
“I’ve been responding to questions directed to me through social media,” he said, adding that his brother had been helping him campaign on the ground in his stead.
“I am at home. I am feeling better and I have been taking the medicine that was prescribed by the doctor.”
Ter, who tested positive on March 4, said he had had to cancel all his scheduled programmes and was still under quarantine.
He said it was a major setback, but was confident voters would support him.
“We are trying to enhance our online campaigns by posting more video clips and live broadcasts,” he said.
Ter faces PN’s Sia Wee Yet and DAP’s Gan Peck Cheng for the Penggaram seat, and Chiong faces BN’s S Supayyah and Perikatan Nasional’s Tan Heng Choon for Bukit Batu. Both are Chinese-majority constituencies.
The elections will be held on Saturday.
