In a statement, transport minister Wee Ka Siong said fully vaccinated travellers would be allowed to enter the two countries without being required to undergo quarantine upon arrival.
He added that this was part of Malaysia’s joint efforts with these countries to reopen international borders.
For Thailand, Wee said that both countries had agreed to allocate up to six flights daily on the Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok route and up to four flights per day for the Kuala Lumpur-Phuket route.
Meanwhile, for Cambodia, only two flights are allowed per day on the Kuala Lumpur-Phnom Penh route.
However, additional routes may be added, provided both countries agree to the new flights.
“These VTL routes will be served by the countries’ designated carriers under the VTL initiative. Related SOPs and health protocols will be released by the relevant agencies soon.
“Travellers are expected to comply with health protocols responsibly in order to enjoy the VTL facility.
“The government will continue discussions with other Asean countries on the safe reopening of routes, subject to prevailing situations,” Wee said.
Recently, the government expanded the VTL programme to include the Penang-Singapore route starting March 16.
