The health minister says if the daily infectivity rate continues to drop, full border opening and more relaxed domestic measures will follow.

Helped by vaccinations, the daily Covid-19 infectivity rate was at 1.06 yesterday.
PETALING JAYA:
Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin says it is too early to tell if Malaysia has gone past the Omicron variant peak although the daily Covid-19 infectivity (R0) rate has steadily dropped to 1.05.

In a tweet, he said 96% of active cases were recovering at home, and the hospital capacity was currently under control.

“If the trend continues, full border opening and more relaxed domestic measures will follow,” Bernama reported him as saying.

The R0 was at 1.06 yesterday, a 0.02 decrease from 1.08 reported on Saturday.

In his social media update, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Perak reported the highest R0 rate at 1.32, followed by Labuan (1.27), Sarawak (1.24) and Terengganu (1.22).

Malaysia reported 24,466 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, with only 105 cases in Categories 3, 4 and 5, and 24,361 in Categories 1 and 2.
